Although Hump Day can be interpreted in many different ways, in the South it’s the middle of the week i.e. Wednesday. So HAPPY HUMP DAY everyone! As this week has gone pretty well, I thought it would be nice to just do a quick update on what’s going on in and around entertainment world. And one correction for earlier this week that apparently confused a lot of you guys, the song “Take You Down” is in fact NOT a JT production. I apologize for any confusion that article may have caused.
Just reported today, New South Books, a publisher of Mark Twain’s “Huckleberry Finn, announced that they will be removing the “n” word and the word “injun” from the story. Twain scholar Alan Gribben told Publishers Weekly, “This is not an effort to render Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn colorblind. Race matters in these books. It’s a matter of how you express that in the 21st century.” Translation: We’re making Huckleberry Finn as PC as possible because people “CAN’T HANDLE THE TRUTH.” Then the word they’re replacing the “n” word with is “slave.” Seriously? How is that word any better than the “n” word.
The late Dennis Hopper’s personal art collect is going up for auction next week. The collection features 300 pieces of memorabilia and works of fine art from the actor’s reservoir. The collection is inspired by his friend, Vincent Price. Since the 60’s Hopper collected several works by Andy Warhol, Wallace Berman, Bruce Conner, Julian Schnabel and George Herms. The auction will also feature posters from several of Hopper’s movies. This auction will take place from January 11-12 in NYC.
This I just have to share. It’s so epic that I just can’t control the shit-eattin’ grin on my face right now. Posted on OCNews today is a person I have officially fallen in love with. The Title is “Kim Kardashian Makes Pointless ‘Music’.” Apparently at the New Year’s Eve celebration in NYC, Kim debuted her new single “Turn It Up” and of course the only recording of the song is from someone’s cell phone. After giving the song about 30 seconds, I was not at all entertained and pushed the pause button. The author of this article said it best, “We get it Kim: You can’t write music, so you just repeat the same words over and over. The problem is you don’t have a good voice, and it just sounds like shit. You should probably just stick to posing for Playboy.”
While sitting here watching TV with my younger brother we had the misfortune of choosing a remake that has the same title as the original. And that movie is… “CrossRoads.” As the movie came up on the screen, we screamed in horror as the ever so non-psychotic looking Britney Spears graced the screen. Here’s the problem with that movie. First off, it has absolutely nothing to do with the original so why keep the title the same. Second, Britney Spears is possibly the worst actress ever. Third, No one could ever come close to replacing the original cast including Ralph Macchio, Joe Seneca, and Jami Gertz. Fourth, in the words of my brother, “It’s a waste of time.” And finally, and this is the most important of all points, the final showdown with the devil is the most epic musical scene in any movie from the 80’s. If you want to enjoy yourself, make sure you check out the Original “Crossroads” because it’s just the better choice.
And finally, tonight is a big night for Television, as CBS is hosting the 2011 People’s Choice Awards. And this year’s host has seen this stage several times before: Queen Latifah! They all know how much we love her. I’m looking forward to what she’s going to wear tonight. Nominees for favorite movie are: Alice in Wonderland, Inception, Iron Man 2, Toy Story 3, and The Twilight Saga: Eclipse. Although I haven’t seen Iron Man 2, I did see all of these movies and I think Inception has them all beat. Check out your other nominees here. I’ll be watching tonight and you can watch me update like a crazy woman on the homepage of the blog or on Twitter @CEliseMata.
