As of last thursday, Activision Blizzard is going forward with disbanding the unit that makes Guitar Hero. The company officially announced that they would no longer develop the game for 2011. With production below expectations, Activision Publishing chief executive said, “We simply cannot make these games profitably based on current economics.” Loosely translated, the game has lost all it’s popularity thanks to Rock Band and they won’t spend money on a lost cause. In December, Viacom sold Harmonix Music Systems and gained up to $200 million in the deal.
Along with Guitar Hero, Activision announced that they will not release a skateboarding game next year and they are going to discontinue “True Crime: Hong Kong.” However, they are launching a new digital platform “Beachhead,” which will focus on the “Call of Duty” franchise.
