Tuesday, Sean Combs made an announcement about his plans for a new music-oriented cable channel called Revolt. The channel will focus on music and news influenced by social networking websites. Comcast has plans to carry Revolt on some of its local cable systems. Time Warner Cable has only held discussions about carrying Revolt and no final decision has been made.
According to Comcast, the Federal Communications Commission and the Department of Justice, Revolt, conceived by Combs and MTV veteran Andy Schuon, will have programming that includes music videos, live performances, music news and interviews. Revolt is scheduled to launch in 2013. “Revolt is the first channel created entirely from the ground up in this new era of social media,” said Combs. “It’s your channel to do what you want to do, how you want to do it,” he said, addressing them (artists), with the result “uncut, raw, uncensored.”
As of right now, it is not certain how much “on camera” time Combs will or will not have on the network.
