Country Music Just Ain’t Country Anymore

Okay, Okay, Okay… I’m here to set the record straight. I am so tired of the current belief that what is now out in the so-called “country music” industry, is called country music. News Flash Fans! IT’S NOT COUNTRY MUSIC! Country music is Dolly Patron. Country Music is Vince Gill. Country Music is Johnny Cash and Patsy Cline. Carrie Underwood, Taylor Swift, and Big & Rich AREN’T Country Music. The most recent releases from the “Country” industry should be called “Pop” Country Music. To be even more blunt, country music hasn’t been country music for the past decade, if not longer than that. Before everyone starts to last out, here’s the rationale. Just because you add twang and a little fiddle to a song doesn’t make it country music. The supposed country artists of the this decade have lost sight of what country music is all about. It’s about telling stories and getting back to your roots. It’s about being sad and hopeful all at the same time. It’s NOT about selling records for selling records sake. I think I’ll have to quote David Allan Coe on this one, “It wasn’t the perfect country & western song because he hadn’t said anything at all about mama, or trains, or trucks, or prison, or getting drunk.” Because that is what country music is really about.

Let me get to my point. Ashton Kutcher has done NOTHING wrong and anyone who says that he did is a complete and total moron! The man showed up looking more country than anyone else I’ve seen at these stupid and now oh so boring awards ceremony’s. Reading these articles about fans and artists being “disgusted” and “offended” by his appearance have only confirmed my opinion that people have gone beyond ridiculous and moved straight to stupid ville. I gotta side with my long time “old” country fans on this one. Kutcher really was the “one of the most country music things that happened on the show.” And I applaud him proudly. I also must say, he looked really good as a Cowboy. Ashton you come on back now, ya hear?
