Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 2012

It’s one of my favorite times of year with the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Especially since they’ve decided to only do this big ceremony once every 3 years. This year’s inductees include: Gun’s N’ Roses, Red Hot Chili Peppers, the Beastie Boys, Donovan, Laura Nyro, Small Faces and Faces.

Axl Rose was the only member of Gun’s N’ Roses to not join in on the celebration at the ceremony. Rose stated his reason for not being at the ceremony was, it “doesn’t appear to be somewhere I’m actually wanted or respected.” According to the LA Times as Axl’s name was mentioned, ‘Boos’ came from the crowd. Mike D and Ad-Rock were representing the Beastie Boys. They took a piece of their time to read a speech from MCA, who has been fighting cancer. They are only the 3rd hip-hop group to enter into the hall.

“It was a magical night,” said HBO Entertainment Vice President Nina Rosenstein. “It had everything you hope for – those great impromptu moments, like Bette Midler getting teary over Laura Nyro. Watching the Red Hot Chili Peppers perform ‘Give It Away,’ I said to someone, ‘They must’ve performed this song 10,000 times, but it’s like they’re doing it for the first time.’ They were so into it. Chris Rock’s speech [inducting the Chili Peppers] was amazing, too.”

The ceremony went on for a 5 and half hours of music ending with an all-star jam on Stevie Wonder’s “Higher Ground.” It featured the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Slash of GN’R, Ronnie Wood and Kenney Jones of the Faces, George Clinton and Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong.
